Our Dutch born client wanted to add a second floor, protecting recently renovated spaces on the main floor. The new second floor clears the old ceiling by 2” to protect previously renovated areas. It’s new second floor walls are set back from the old exterior walls, allowing for a roof skirt that makes the second floor less imposing amongst it’s neighbours. The result is an addition with nooks and crannies, reminding the owners of homes they grew up in in Holland.
